Out of the Care Home, Into the Neighbourhood
An Intergenerational Community Project in Berlin Lichtenrade
The project “Out of the Care Home, Into the Neighbourhood” brings together residents of Berlin Lichtenrade from June to September 2026 – across generations and different corners of the same neighbourhood.
Parallel movement and dance workshops will take place at Nachbarschaftszentrum Bornhagenweg, the Kinder- und Jugendhaus Lichtenrade and the AlexA Seniorenresidenz Lichtenrade. What begins separately gradually grows together over the course of the project. At a mid-point gathering and a closing celebration, the groups share their movements, bring their experiences into a common space and explore dance as a social and sensory medium.
Led by professional dancers and accompanied by live music, the sessions invite participants to experiment and to be attentive – to themselves and to one another. In this way, new connections form between people who might rarely otherwise meet: children and young people, older neighbours, and residents of the care home.
Registration for the workshops at the Nachbarschaftszentrum Bornhagenweg is now open. The workshops take place in two blocks of four sessions each, in June/July and August/September 2026. A shared mid-point gathering is planned for 4 July; the public closing celebration will take place on 27 September 2026.
Participation in all sessions is encouraged and free of charge. No prior dance experience is required. Registration is appreciated.
