Intergenerational Community Project in Berlin Lichtenrade
From June to September 2026, the project “Out of the Home, Into the Neighborhood” brings together residents of Berlin-Lichtenrade – across generations and living situations.
Parallel movement and dance workshops take place at three different locations: the Nachbarschaftszentrum Bornhagenweg, the Kinder- und Jugendhaus Lichtenrade, and the AlexA Seniorenresidenz Lichtenrade. Adults, children, and seniors – with or without dance experience – first meet within their own groups, exploring dance and movement under professional guidance.
In late August, the groups from the neighborhood center and the senior residence come together for the first time at the “Zwischenstopp” event: through their shared experience of dance, new kinds of encounters and connections become possible. Building on the impulses from this meeting, the groups then move into a further workshop phase. In late September, everyone comes back together for the grand “Tanzfest” that closes out the project – this time also meeting the young participants from the Kinder- und Jugendhaus Lichtenrade.
With the Dance Festival on September 27, 2026, the project opens up to the wider neighborhood: families, friends, and anyone interested from the local community are warmly invited to connect and exchange through dance and movement, set to live music, and to get to know both old and new neighbors. In this way, new connections form within the neighborhood between people who might otherwise rarely cross paths: children and teenagers, younger and older neighbors, and residents of the senior home.
