TIM ETCHELLS

Tim Etchells is an artist and writer working across various contexts – primarily in performance, visual art and literature. He is the co-founder and artistic director of the performance group Forced Entertainment, considered one of the most influential theatre projects of the past decades. Under his direction, the group received the International Ibsen Award in 2016 for its significant contribution to contemporary theatre.

Etchells has collaborated with renowned artists and choreographers such as Meg Stuart, Marino Formenti, Taus Makhacheva, Vlatka Horvat und Elmgreen & Dragset. His highly successful plays, such as The Notebook, Quizoola! and Speak Bitterness, are performed at theaters and major festivals around the world.

His visual art practice includes numerous Neon and LED works, which have been exhibited internationally and partly presented as public installations. Among others, at Tate Modern (London) and Witte de With (Rotterdam), as well as as part of Manifesta 7 (Rovereto), the Aichi Triennale (Japan), and the Folkestone Triennial.

Etchells has received numerous awards for his artistic and literary work, including the Manchester Fiction Prize in 2019.
