Dance On Lab

The Dance On Lab developed from a group of interested amateurs who have been working together with the Artistic Director Laura Böttinger since 2016. In the joint meetings, creative processes are stimulated and the group is guided to create choreographic elements from their own experiences and movements. In addition to learning dance techniques, the focus is on encouraging the group to use their own movements and improvisation.Acceptance, understanding and realisation are central aspects of the work phases. Public presentations and showings can be found under “Productions”.

Since 2017 regular workshops of the choreographic laboratory Dance On Lab have been held at various locations under the artistic direction of Laura Böttinger. See  “Workshops”.

PRODUCTIONS

AMOURUOMA

PREMIERE: June 30, 2023, 7 p.m. | Centre français, Berlin Wedding

A performance of the Dance On Lab by Nicole Berndt-Caccivio
In AMOURUOMA, performers with life experience explore their emotional memories related to love, falling in love, breakups, jealousy, and all the other facets that emerge. From the puzzle pieces, images emerge that are expressed and performed through the body, dance, and perhaps the voice. A feeling like “butterflies in the stomach” might turn into a brilliant, improvised solo. A state like “hurt and left alone” possibly leads to a group choreography.

Choreography: Nicole Berndt-Caccivio
Dancers: Hedy Friese, Eva Günther, Angela Haardt, Gudrun Korittke, Martina Krause, Walburga Pauels, Joan Plank, Claudia Knaus, Ingeborg Rasch, Monika Ungruhe, Bärbel Walter (Dance On Lab Berlin)
Sound: Mattef Kuhlmey
Light: Martin Beeretz
Duration: approx. 30 minutes

Nicole Berndt-Caccivio was born in 1963 in Biel and is a Swiss dancer, choreographer and lecturer in contemporary dance. She is the artistic director of the Age Company in Vienna, founded in 2009, which deals with art for and with older people. With the project “Collective Spheres“, founded in 2020, she connects with younger dancers and choreographers on different artistic, pedagogical and performative levels.

Tideland

Only very special images remain in us, in our bodies and our memories. From shared moments, a fan opens up to individual frames of mind. In “tideland” they go in search of the common and individual understanding of things. They run across, disturb, collect and dive deep.

Sound: Boris Hauf
Cast: Ingeborg Rasch, Walpurga Pauels, Maria Wollny, Volker Sobottke, Gudrun Korittke, Joan Plank, Doris Breitenbach, Eva Günther

Developed in collaboration with Martin Nachbar, Laura Böttinger and the dancers of the DANCE ON ENSEMBLE with amateurs 60+, Life Lines builds on the idea of a living archive within each moving body that lights up whole stories through minimal and everyday movements. Action, embodiment, space, and courage are four components that direct the performers in the process towards choreography.

WORKSHOPS

Get out of the care home and into the theatre

In order to actively involve older people from care homes in cultural life, the team of Dance On Participation tested the new format Raus aus dem Heim, rein ins Theater last year: residents from the Johannastift Spandau and the Schönow care home saw three selected dance pieces in the Radialsystem, the Sophiensäle and at Tanz im August. In preparation, knowledge about dance was taught in workshops, movement approaches were tried out and ideas were exchanged. This was followed by discussions, dancing and an exchange of impressions. The positive response from all those involved, especially the participating residents, encourages us in our desire to establish long-term educational programmes and visibility for this target group.

Artistic Direction: Laura Böttinger, Dance On Participation: Laura Böttinger, Angela Deutsch, Collaboration: Anastasia Luck, Documentation: Phil Dera, Consulting: Prof. Dr. Michael Bossle

Cooperation partners: Tanzscout Berlin, Schönow nursing home, Johannastift Spandau, Fahrservice Schulz

We are delighted to be able to realise this special project with the support of Fahrservice Schulz.

Thanks to Prof Dr Michael Bossle, Andreas Rath and Eva Meyer-Keller.

Workshop with Ziv Frenkel and Madeline Ritter

in the framework of S.K.A.T. (Seniorinnen und Senioren Akademie für Tanz)

The results of the laboratory will be presented to the public and put up for discussion during the Long Night of Art at the end of the stay at Künstlerhaus Lukas. In addition to a performative presentation, the team opens its doors and invites interested amateurs to the workshop to get to know the principles of the Choreographic Laboratory.

DANCE ON LOCAL

With Martin Nachbar and the DANCE ON ENSEMBLE

Dance amateurs aged over 50 and professional dancers are coming together on an equal footing in a project by and with the choreographer Martin Nachbar: while members of the DANCE ON ENSEMBLE are bringing their many years of dance experience to the project, dance amateurs are doing the same with the specific skills they have acquired in the course of their lives. Together, they will develop an artistic format that picks up on the practices of the DANCE ON dancers and translates them in such a way that interested amateurs can benefit from generating movement material and dancing together.

First formats were already developed in two workshops in February and April 2017 in the Berlin Uferstudios, which were then deepened in July 2017 during a residence week at Schloss Bröllin with other participants from Pasewalk and the surrounding area.
